SACRED ACTIVISM
In this month’s study club, we’ll be orienting ourselves around the theme of sacred activism. We will interrogate challenges faced by activists and in movement spaces and we will collaborate on how we can better show up for our communities while maintaining our own wellbeing and sacred sense of purpose. We will also focus our attention on practice this month, and will explore how we might bring our work in the study club into our larger ecosystems and communities.
Join us as we gather online and explore selections from adrienne marie brown on pleasure activism, alexis pauline gumbs on the misplaced desire to “save” the planet, Tricia Hersey’s Nap Ministry and the liberation of rest, the ecomystical resilience of Queer Nature, selections from The Prophet by Khalil Gibran, and more. Materials selected, and session hosted by, Priya Subberwal.
What does it mean to create a practice of activism that is liberating, fulfilling, and grounded? How do we live into being the world that we are dreaming of? What is our spiritual obligation to this world? What spiritual guidance or frameworks can ground our theories of change? How can we foster a sense of community, accountability, and sacred purpose in our movement building that sustains us throughout our personal and collective practices of activism?
The Study Club will begin by following the threads of these questions – offering a selection of curated content (essays, podcasts and short films) each month – by writers, activists and artists exploring these themes in their work. In the session, we will come together to reflect on our collective insights, and how we can apply the learning to our social change work.
This space is for people seeking to dive beneath the surface of everyday engagement – and to dedicate the time to learn, think, be inspired and nourished in their practices.
